The Under Secretary of State for Foreign

Affairs presents his compliments to the Under

Secretary of State for the Colonies and, with

reference to the Colonial Office letter of the 30th. November respecting Mr.Kahl of Canton, begs to state that the initials of Mr.Kahl are "J.A."

and that the version "T.A." in the enclosure to

Foreign Office letter No.165647 was due to a typist's

error.
